18 U.S.C. § 2257 Compliance Notice
Last Updated: May 3, 2026
A. Statement of compliance and exemption
Sozee AI is operated by Animus Technologies LLC (DBA Sozee AI) (“Sozee,” “we,” “us,” “our“). Sozee is a platform that lets adult creators produce, host, and distribute two distinct categories of content:
- Content depicting actual human beings — photographs, videos, livestreams, and AI-generated derivatives produced from a real person’s likeness.
- Wholly synthetic content — content generated by artificial intelligence that does not depict any actual human being and was not produced from any actual human being’s likeness.
The two categories are governed differently under federal law, and this notice addresses each separately.
B. As to content depicting actual human beings — full 2257 compliance
For all visual depictions of actual sexually explicit conduct (as that phrase is defined in 18 U.S.C. § 2256(2)(A)) and all visual depictions of simulated sexually explicit conduct (as that phrase is defined in 18 U.S.C. § 2257A) that are produced, hosted, or distributed through the Service and that depict an actual human being, Sozee and the producers using the Service maintain records as required by 18 U.S.C. §§ 2257 and 2257A and the regulations promulgated thereunder (28 C.F.R. Part 75).
Each performer depicted in such content has been verified to be at least 18 years of age at the time the depiction was created. Records sufficient to establish each performer’s identity and date of birth — including a copy of a valid government-issued photographic identification — are maintained by the Custodian of Records identified below.
Custodian of Records: Custodian of Records, Animus Technologies LLC (DBA Sozee AI) 440 Monticello Ave Ste 1802 PMB 95775 Norfolk, VA 23510, United States Email: 2257@sozee.ai
Records are available for inspection at the address above during normal business hours, by prior written appointment, in accordance with 28 C.F.R. Part 75. To request an inspection, please email the Custodian at the address above with at least twenty (20) business days’ notice.
For uploads where Sozee is a secondary producer (i.e., where a creator using the Service is the primary producer of the content depicting actual sexually explicit conduct), Sozee maintains the records that 28 C.F.R. § 75.2 requires of secondary producers. The primary producer of that content remains responsible for the underlying records and is identified, where required, in the metadata of the depiction or in records held by Sozee.
C. As to wholly synthetic content — exemption under 18 U.S.C. § 2257(h)(1)
Visual depictions hosted on the Service that are wholly synthetic — that is, generated by artificial intelligence and not produced from, depicting, or otherwise based on the likeness of any actual human being — are not “actual sexually explicit conduct” within the meaning of 18 U.S.C. § 2256(2)(A) and do not trigger the record-keeping requirements of § 2257 or § 2257A. Such content is exempt under 18 U.S.C. § 2257(h)(1), which excludes from the statute’s reach material that does not depict an actual human being.
This exemption does not apply to:
- AI-generated depictions of any actual human being, whether real or recognizable, including depictions produced from a creator’s own likeness
- AI-generated depictions composited or merged with imagery of an actual human being
- Any content that depicts, sexualizes, or exploits a minor (real or simulated). Material that constitutes child sexual abuse material (CSAM) is illegal under 18 U.S.C. § 2256, § 2252, and § 2252A regardless of whether it depicts an actual minor, and is strictly prohibited on the Service. We report all suspected CSAM to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and cooperate fully with law enforcement.
For all AI-generated depictions of actual human beings, the records described in Section B above are maintained, including a copy of valid government-issued photographic identification for the depicted person and contemporaneous written authorization for the AI use of the person’s likeness.
D. Age and consent representations from creators
Every account holder using the Service to upload, generate, or distribute content of the type described in Section B must, before any such content is published or distributed:
- Verify the account holder’s identity and age via Sozee’s third-party identity-verification provider, including a liveness check and government-issued photographic identification
- Provide, for every actual human being depicted in the content, a copy of a valid government-issued photographic identification, the depicted person’s legal name, date of birth, and any aliases used in the content
- Provide a signed, dated, written release from each depicted person authorizing the specific creation, distribution, and (where applicable) AI training and AI generation of content based on that person’s likeness
- Re-verify identity, age, and consent before any material change to the depicted persons or to the scope of authorized use
False or fraudulent verification, false or fraudulent age statements, and the upload or generation of content depicting any person who is or may be under 18 are zero-tolerance violations, will result in immediate account termination, and are reported to law enforcement.
E. Designation of Custodian — for purposes of 28 C.F.R. § 75.6
In compliance with the labeling and notice requirements of 18 U.S.C. § 2257(e) and 28 C.F.R. § 75.6, the records required by 18 U.S.C. § 2257 and § 2257A and the regulations issued thereunder for materials produced, hosted, or distributed through the Service are kept by:
Custodian of Records, Animus Technologies LLC (DBA Sozee AI) 440 Monticello Ave Ste 1802 PMB 95775 Norfolk, VA 23510, United States
